One of only 92 right-hand drive cabriolets ever made (depending on the source consulted - the actual figure may be as low as 78), this glamorous Mercedes-Benz 300 SE was previously located in Victoria before the current NSW based owner purchased the car through Amstar Motors in January 2010. In good cosmetic condition externally at the time of purchase, the new owner felt the interior could use a little freshening up and entrusted the 300 SE to Car Interior Plus of Artarmon, Sydney, recognised as one of the leading trimmers of classic Mercedes-Benz in Australia. The upholstery, carpets and trim were all professionally restored or replaced using only factory correct materials, the timber rejuvenated and a brand new hood fitted, along with a new windscreen. Carefully maintained by marque specialists over the past five years, the engine has been rebuilt as well as a new cylinder head fitted in 2015. Examples of Mercedes-Benz' mid-1960s flagship cabriolet rarely come on the market, particularly in factory right-hand drive guise and, unlike this car, most of those have been treated indifferently. Stylish, practical and comfortable, the 300 SE Cabriolet is considerably rarer than its more highly fancied siblings like the 280 SE 3.5 and Pagoda range, yet until recently it has been somewhat overlooked by collectors. Currently registered on the personal plates '65-MERC' in NSW until February 2017, the Mercedes-Benz comes with some history and receipts.
