The only other 280SEL known to exist was posted for sale on eBay in Germany in March 2021. The text for the eBay listing was as follows (note it has been translated):

Up for auction today is a very rare vehicle, Mercedes W116 280SEL from South France from Crayfords of Westerham which have built around 200 exclusive station wagons based on the S Class. The car is built in 1977 and had only 2 previous owners, the last over 30 years, It was not driven much about 120000Km and only until 1995 then the last BSitzer wanted to convert it to diesel, had already started but never finished, the original 280 machine is installed again but not yet fully connected because I am not sure whether it is New owners do not want to install a V8 which fits the car much better.

At that time it was delivered with nice extras including air conditioning, colored glass, 4x electric windows, electric. Steel sliding roof, level regulation on the rear axle, AHK, center armrest, holding points for roof rails Fuchs Allufelgen.

Because the car has never experienced a winter, the body has received very well, no welds have been made, of course the processing quality of the conversion company leaves something to be desired, but that's normal and new already.
