Funny photos.
Several times we have asked Newsletter readers to submit appropriate material for the Newsletters and this week we have a few items from the readers for you. First off, a selection of interesting paint schemes. Yes I know only one of them is a Mercedes-Benz, however I think that they are all worth a look. Please feel free to e-mail me with anything that you think the other Newsletter readers may enjoy.
AMG CLK55 Cabriolet
Last Newsletter we found out that if you have a NEW CLK and it is struck by lightning then you will survive. This Newsletter, we can tell you that the AMG CLK55 is available to order, so that if you see the heavens about to open, you can get back to shelter quicker!!!!!! Here is part of a recent release from Mercedes-Benz:
Mercedes-Benz has added the blistering CLK 55 AMG Cabriolet to its CLK-Class model range in Australia, with the first customer deliveries of the open-top sports model now underway.
Featuring V8 power, dynamic ride characteristics and a high-quality standard specification, the $204,900 CLK 55 AMG Cabriolet is the ultimate open-top sports model in the CLK-Class range. And the four-seater with a 5.5-litre, eight-cylinder engine developing 270 kW more than lives up to this billing. Peak torque is 510 Nm and arrives at 4000 rpm.
Perfectly honed by Mercedes-AMG, the V8 power plant equipped with three valves per cylinder and dual ignition delivers exemplary performance and torque characteristics. The engine is just as at home when accelerating dynamically as it is during relaxed cruising in high gear with immense power reserves. It enables the CLK 55 AMG Cabriolet to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
Given the engine's dynamic power delivery, the five-speed automatic transmission with AMG-SPEEDSHIFT proves to be an ideal partner. Manual mode ("M") gives the driver the option of using F1-style gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. In addition, the gears are not changed automatically in this mode, meaning that the driver can utilise the immense pulling power to the full, even with the throttle wide open. Other AMG-SPEEDSHIFT functions that really come into their own during sporty driving include automatic active downshifting, "shift to ideal gear", torque converter lockup in any gear and shorter, more spontaneous gear changes.
The high-performance Cabriolet - complete with its eight-cylinder engine that complies with the EU 4 emissions regulations due to come into force in 2005 - consumes 12.3 litres of fuel per 100 km (NEDC combined consumption).

Cars for dismantling
We didn't get much interest in last Newsletters restoration projects. This surprised me, as we quite often get phone calls from people looking for cars like this to restore. So I thought I would run the pictures again.
Two new cars this week. However both are hopefully to be sold as complete cars for restoration. As you will see below we have sold the 87 190E. We traded a rather sad looking W110 230 short Finnie on it. The 230 version of the W110 chassis is a bit of a half bread version of the W111. Most W110 Finnies are four cylinder cars, the 230 has the six cylinder engine from the bigger W111, in the small body. The engine is so tight in the engine bay that the radiator is inside the radiator support panel, not bolted to the back of it. I guess it is a bit like the 190E 2.6!
The previous owner had driven it for 24 years and loved it to death, however the time had come for a car with power steering and air conditioning. Whilst first looks will disappoint, this car is a real gem if you are looking for something like this to restore. The big plus is that it has NO rust and the chrome is great. In fact it has one of the best bodies I have seen on a Finnie for years. The cars major fault is that it has a burnt out exhaust valve on one cylinder and the engine does not run well. Price is $2000.00
We also brought a 1960 190b. It is also a great start for someone looking to restore a car like this. Great body and trim. It was registered until a month ago. It has a rebuilt diff that we supplied only 12 months ago and new tail lamps. It was taken off the road as it has a blown head gasket. Price is $2500.00 (the diff and tail lights are worth $1500.00 if you are restoring one of these)
New cars this week are:
We also have a pair of white W116's and a W114 coupe that have arrived. A 74 350SE with a broken timing chain and a 73 model 450SE with a dead engine. The 450SE is a strange beast as it has a miles per hour speedo and an Australian Compliance plate dated 06/73. This must have been one of the first W116's brought into the County. The 280CE is absolutely totally rusted out.............

As advised in the last newsletter we have changed the way we list the cars for sale in the Newsletter. The down side of the change is that you don't get a picture of each car with the Newsletter, but the upside is that there is now an exterior and interior shot of each car on the site. Please click on the vehicle description below if you are interested.
