W113 mailing list.

Do you own or dream about owning a W113 Pagoda SL? Here is a new mailing list especially for the W113 fans. Looks like they are doing quite well with over 40 members and 300 messages archived so far. The W113 covers the 230SL,250SL and the 280SL from 1963 to 1971.

Funny photo of the week.

This photo was sent to us by Michael Martin. Michael is the web master for the Mercedes-Benz Club of the ACT and one of our newsletter members. I thought that we should have some fun with it so we are going to run a competition to see who can come up with the best caption for it. Michaels entry appears below the picture. The prize will be either a Dash mat or a set of Headlamp Protectors to suit the winners car. All entries will be in the next newsletter.

Cars for sale.

This week it would be better if the heading said "Cars Sold" We only have one car for sale at the moment!!  We have sold the 280E, and the 230E. The 450SL and the 450SLC are still being worked on. But, don't worry we have more stock arriving this week including these two.

280SE 1984  W126 sedan. A one owner car originally purchased from and service by Macintosh's in Sydney. Travelled only 159000kms and then traded back in at Macintosh's. White duco with royal blue MB-tex trim. Air cond, power steering, central locking, cruise control, electric windows, ABS brakes and more.  $13990.00

230E 1986 W124 sedan. Australian delivered car with some strange options. It has electric front seats with memory on the drivers side. This was an option usually fitted to 560SEL's? Also has electric window, cruise, power steering, etc, etc. Diamond blue with grey MB-tex trim. Travelled 206000kms with service history. $17990.00

Both of these cars will be sold fully serviced and with a current road worthy certificate.

Here is the only car left until the two above arrive. It is a 1982 380SEC coupe.

Screen Savers.

Have a look here. What a great list of screen savers for a Mercedes-Benz fan.The "Future of the Automobile" and new W203 versions are excellent. Don't worry about them being in German. The quality of the cars is great.

Site of the week.

This site is all in German but has some amazing information on the W115 and W114 series. The name needs some explanation. In 1968 and 1969 Mercedes-Benz for some reason started to use a number after the model name to tell what year it was first released. For example a 250 W114 was a 250/8. When the 280SE 3.5 came out in 1969 it was called the 280SE 3.5/9. This strange system only was seen on the Chassis number plate in front of the radiator in the engine bay. The system was dropped for the 1970 model year. As the W114 and W115 range started in 1968 this club calls themselves the "Stroke eight club" or in German "strichachtclub"

One other thing that quite often confuses people is the difference between a W114 and a W115. It is not the level of trim as some think but the number of cylinders in the engine. A W114 is a 6cyl (230/250/280) and a W115 has 4 or 5 cylinders. (200/220/230/240D). All the diesels were W115's.

Don't worry about not understanding the words just keep clicking on the links. There are some great pictures and information to check out.

The Three Pointed Star and the Silver Screen.

As long as there have been movies it seems that there have been movies with Benz's in them. This has been the main topic on the Veterans mailing list last week. One of the members has even done up a list on the web of all the films we could think of that had Benz's in them. Go here to find it. If you can think of any more let him know. The e-mail address is at the bottom of the page.
