M.B Spares Newsletter No. 130

Hello all, sorry there was no October Newsletter as Sandra and I have been away on leave. We have spent the last 3 weeks in North America including managing to be stuck in New York when Hurricane Sandy hit. By chance we were staying uptown so were not affected by the power cuts and managed to get on one of the first planes to fly out a few days after the event. Whilst in California we visited the MBUSA Classic Center and will have a report in the December Newsletter.

MB Spares workshop open night.

It is now under 2 weeks until the annual MB Spares Sausages and Spanners night with the Mercedes-Benz club of the ACT so mark Tuesday the 13th of November in your diary. Format for the night is a 5:30 - 6:00pm start so you can come straight from work if a local. Enjoy some gourmet sausages, a refreshing drink and some good company, followed by a tour of our facilities and talk from John Green.

Normally over by 8:30- 9:00pm so those who have come down from Sydney have time to get home before midnight.. (that's when your Mercedes may turn into a Hyundai)

Whilst this is a MBCACT event, you are all welcome to attend. It is also listed as an event via our Facebook page.

MB Spares Calendar.

The 2013 MB Spares desk calendar is now ready and being distributed with parts orders. Produced in conjunction with the Mercedes-Benz Club of the ACT. January - June features our 1954 300b and Murray's 1953 220. July to December features a stunning 320CE Cabriolet belonging to one of our customers. If you don't have any parts needs at the moment but would still like a calendar sent out please let us know and we will drop one in the post to you.

A car is only original once (part 2)

In Newsletter 127 I wrote an article pointing out the modern trend in encouraging the preservation of original examples of Classic cars. Well here is another article on the subject, it makes a very good point comparing original verses restored antique furniture and the effect of the price. The authors point about "Collecting cars" being a relatively young pursuit is very relevant. Hopefully this message will continue to circulate in the Classic car community before to much more damage is done.

This article was brought to our attention by the new owner of our 190Dbwho quite obviously understands the importance of preservation of original examples..

Mercedes-Benz Club of the ACT Concours.

Another Mercedes-Benz club of the ACT Concours has been run and won with this year's winner being a stunning SL280 from the Victorian Mercedes-Benz Club. The event is run as part of the Shannons German Autofest which is attended by all of the German marque car clubs. Haven't had a chance to put pictures on the MB Spares website yet, but they are listed on ourFacebook page. You do not need to be a Facebook member to view these pictures.

Murray Mules wins Committee's choice award with NSU Ro80

The other big winner at the recent Shannons German Autofest was our own Murray Mules, taking out the award to best Rare Marque and the Committee's Choice award with his NSU Ro80. See picture in the R/H margin. You can see the car and some other details of NSU's here in Australia atMurray's website.

Mercedes-Benz links

- I hope the new owner of this cartakes head of the current trend to not destroy this car by restoring it.

- If you have not seem any of the "Comedians in Cars, getting coffee" series, this is a good oneto start with. Thanks to the customer who sent this in.

- This linkabout the von Krieger Special Roadster was also sent in by a customer.

If you find anything interesting on the web and would like to share it with us please contact me here.

New staff.

More staffing news, this time we can confirm that Ryan Smith has signed up to do an apprenticeship in Automotive Mechanical Technology with us. Ryan has been with us for a few months on a trial basis and we are very happy with his choice to join our team. MB Spares recognizes the need for the Automotive repair industry to continue to support itself by training our future technicians. Not only does this ensure the long term viability of the industry, but it exposes us to the latest technologies being taught at the various trades training facilities around Australia.

Upcoming events.

There are always plenty of events on across Australia for Mercedes-Benz owners. Here are a few to put in your diary:

18thof November 2012. Marques in the ParkMBCACT

17thof March 2013 Pagoda's 50th Birthday event.www.sl113.org

Cars for sale.

The other reason for no October newsletter was the number of cars that we sold in the week before we left, all of which had to be sorted, registered and delivered before we left. If you look at our cars for sale listingon the website, you will see a very odd sight. Nothing is listed. There are a few cars that we know will be coming in next week so stay tuned. The list should be as follows…

- 420SEL 1988 sedan, very neat example that we have sold once before. (See picture in R/H margin)

- 413CDI Sprinter cab chassis 2002, has only done 27000kmns and had a box fitted to the rear. Would make an idea mobile trades mans van.

- E320 Elegance, 2001 model with Sat Nave and some other nice options.

- S320 sedan, 1996 model very well kept example.

So that's all for now. We look forward to seeing many of you at the ACT club Concours, and for those of you who can't attend we will have pictures in the October Newsletter.

Enjoy your Benz..

John & Sandra Green.
